Bringing fans closer for Green Day’s Saviours Tour

With more than 80 dates spanning the globe, Green Day’s Saviours 2024/2025 tour has captivated hundreds of thousands of fans eager to experience two of the band’s seminal albums, Dookie and American Idiot, in their entirety. Vis a Vis Video’s cutting-edge live video design put the relationship between the band and fans front and centre, eliminating any barriers to create a shared connection within a vast stadium environment.

The Vis A Vis crew deployed custom-built Blackcam rail tracks to enable a dynamic, immersive perspective for fans. A curved B20 track around the front of the stage, paired with a Blackmagic Design URSA G2 with [lens], closely shadowed singer Billie Joe Armstong as he performed directly to the crowd. The camera’s fluid motion brought fans close to the action, capturing Armstrong’s energy and interactions from an up-close, personal vantage point. Equally innovative was the setup around drummer Tré Cool’s kit. A tight Blackcam track, in combination with a Q-Ball camera curved around the drums, offering the audience a unique view of his commitment to the music, without the need for a camera operator hovering over the kit.

To complement these intimate stage shots, two additional Blackmagic URSA G2s were positioned in the pit, rigged with Canon 14-43 and 25-78 box lenses to deliver stunning wide shots with exceptional clarity, ensuring no moment went unnoticed.
The spontaneity and raw energy of each live performance were captured in real time and seamlessly integrated into the show’s live mix. The backbone of this was an ATEM 4 M/E Constellation switcher, which facilitated smooth switching across hundreds of manual cues. Thanks to Vis a Vis’s extensive collaboration with Green Day, the team has developed an intuitive understanding of the band’s rhythm, ensuring the video direction was always in sync with the onstage energy.

The live visuals were further enhanced by conceptual graphics created by The Playground, which were fed through disguise [spec] servers. The mix was projected onto IMAG screens flanking the stage, along with a striking eyebrow LED banner positioned above the band, adding another layer of engagement and energy to the show.
By placing the fans at the heart of the experience, Vis a Vis’s live video design made Green Day’s Saviours tour more than just a concert—it was an electrifying, immersive journey that brought the audience closer than ever before.

Stu Merser: “Billie Joe is so interactive with the audience, we didn’t want to have anything coming in between him and the crowd. The band love the setup we devised, and really embrace the freedom it gives them to enjoy each concert’s unique atmosphere.”
